Axolotls are back in the art room! Kindergarteners loved the story Spike the Mixed up Monster. This book as AWESOME for my students (most of whom are Spanish speakers) because it has some words in Spanish and the animals in the book live in Mexico. There is even a glossary in the back with pictures and information about the animals.
We used shapes to sketch an axolotl. . .
The next week students drew their axolotl onto big paper and we used the carousel painting method to add bright, bold colors.Fine motor skills were utilized to finish up the axolotls. Kinders used yarn to add hair to their spikes and shiny, sparkly sequins.
They loved showing off their knowledge of shapes by drawing with crayons. The final artworks are totally amazing and a little terrifying.
